What is Propolis?
Bees are a very multi-talented species. Not only are they the creators of honey and royal jelly, but they also produce Propolis. Bees collect tree sap and mix it with beeswax, honey, and enzymes, to form Propolis. They use it to defend, protect, and sterilise their hives. In Greek ‘Propolis’ appropriately translates from Greek to ‘Defender of the City’. When used on the skin, Propolis translates to how it helps in the hive – it helps protect and support the skin! Known to help alleviate a variety of skin woes.
Why is Propolis used in Skincare?
Propolis is renowned for its natural soothing abilities, which work quickly to comfort and calm the skin. This nurturing ingredient also helps restore skin’s natural moisture barrier, whilst balancing oil production, for a healthy-looking complexion. It is also naturally rich in antioxidants to protect the skin from the damaging effects of free radicals, which can lead to dehydration, dullness, breakouts, and fine lines.

This one snuck into the collection in 2020. Our Propolis range is so loved by our customers, we felt the only element of the collection that was missing was a deeply moisturising product to target a delicate skin type. So, SBC formulated pure indulgence for skin requiring that little extra TLC.
