How to maintain scalp health

How to maintain scalp health

Do you ever find yourself constantly scratching your scalp, dealing with dryness, or noticing flakes that just won’t go away? An irritated scalp is more common than you might think. Whether it feels tight, sensitive, or inflamed, your scalp could be trying to tell you something. Understanding the signs and knowing how to care for it is the first step toward restoring balance.

What are the signs of poor scalp health?

When the skin on your scalp becomes unbalanced you may notice some of the following signs which can mean it’s too dry, too oily, irritated or congested.

  • Dryness, flaking or itchiness
  • Excess oil or greasy roots
  • Sensitivity, redness or inflammation
  • Hair thinning or slow hair growth
  • Bumps or sores

What causes an unhealthy scalp?

A combination of internal and external factors can disrupt your scalps natural balance. Over washing or using harsh products can strip away essential moisture, while product build-up, excess oil and infrequent cleansing can clog the scalp and lead to irritation. Environmental stressors like pollution and UV exposure, along with heat styling, can further aggravate sensitivity. In some cases, stress, hormonal changes and dehydration can also contribute, leaving the scalp feeling dry, itchy or uncomfortable.

How can I restore my scalp health?

Fortunately improving scalp health doesn’t have to be complicated. Small, consistent changes can make a big difference.

SBC’s Propolis & Salicylic Scalp Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner is infused with natural active ingredients to calm, soothe and restore balance. Propolis is a precious extract derived from the hive that’s bursting with polyphenols, flavonoids and phenolic acids that give it antibacterial, anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory properties.  Salicylic Acid and Willow bark extracts combine to gently exfoliate and lift the accumulation, oil and product build-up that can clog the hair follicle and eventually have a detrimental effect on hair growth.  Panthenol helps to hydrate while strengthening the hair and improving elasticity, promoting visibly healthier-looking results.

How should I use Propolis & Salicylic Scalp Rescue Shampoo & Conditioner?

These formulations are gentle enough to use daily or alternatively, use them as a weekly scalp treatment to purify and rebalance your scalp to encourage healthy hair growth.  It’s important to massage the shampoo into the scalp and around the hair follicle to ensure the active ingredients are applied correctly and to improve blood flow and circulation.

Both formulations are sulphate and silicone free which means they’re also suitable for coloured or treated hair.

Which other SBC Skincare products can help?

Our moisturising skincare gels are light-weight and water based, free from oils and touch dry within seconds and therefore can be applied to the scalp to tackle skin irritation without causing discomfort or excess grease which may exacerbate the problem.

We recommend applying Propolis Gel to the hairline and scalp. It’s antimicrobial properties help to calm sensitivity and itching whilst rebalancing the skin barrier.  For cooling relief that tackles excess dryness and sensitivity apply Aloe Vera Gel to cool, hydrate and calm redness.

Your scalp is the foundation of healthy-looking hair, so giving it the same attention as your skincare routine is key. By keeping it clean, hydrated and balanced using carefully created scalp treatments you can maintain a comfortable, healthy scalp and your best hair yet!
